Ulsan AI Data Center: Power Infrastructure Advancing Toward 100MW

The Ulsan AI Data Center project — located in Ulju-gun, Ulsan, on Korea's southeastern coast — continues to advance on the single factor that determines whether a Korean data center project is real: power.

MGNT Partners is advising on the project as it works through Korea's power infrastructure process toward a 100MW first-phase facility purpose-built for AI and hyperscale workloads.

Power Infrastructure Progress

  • Preliminary grid capacity confirmed — KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Corporation) responded to the project's 154kV / 100MW capacity request in June 2026, confirming technical feasibility of supply.

  • Power grid impact assessment advancing — the project is now progressing through Korea's formal power grid impact assessment process, the regulatory step required before a large-load facility can connect to the national grid.

  • Target interconnection point — Bancheon substation, located close to the site.

  • Planned electricity service commencement — March 2029.

Why Power Progress Matters More Than Land

Korea's data center bottleneck isn't land — it's grid capacity. Industry data has put the final approval rate for power grid impact assessments in the Seoul metro area at under 2%. Projects located outside the capital region, like Ulsan, are working through a materially less congested grid, which is exactly why securing a credible power pathway early is the milestone that matters.

Built for AI, From the Ground Up

The project is being planned as a 100MW first-phase AI data center, with a design and site large enough to support future expansion. Because the facility is still in the pre-construction design stage, there remains a window for a qualified anchor tenant — hyperscaler, AI/GPU cloud operator, or global colocation provider — to help shape rack density, cooling architecture, and connectivity requirements before the design is finalized.

MGNT Partners advises international investors, hyperscalers, and AI cloud operators on data center opportunities across Korea, including the Ulsan AI Data Center. If your organization is evaluating power-secured sites in Korea, we would welcome the conversation.
